The pacing of television is quick, often frenetic, and doesn’t allow for deep thinking or introspection. Reading a book allows you to go back and reread, if need be, for better understanding. Watching television is different. Once an image is gone, it’s gone, being replaced by another set of images, yet another, with no time or real way to dissect on a deep level what you are receiving. With a book, the pace and depth of what you receive is under your control, with TV it is in somebody else’s control.
