We applied annotated genomic data to extend this anecdotal analysis. By overlaying oxygen-requirement annotations on a phylogenetic tree along with pathway capabilities, we ask whether particular types of organisms (aerobes, anaerobes, or facultative anaerobes) tend to be capable of one pathway or another.
