, founded in 1877, is a historically black university in Jackson, the capital city of Mississippi. The only public university in the metropolitan area, Jackson State's main campus is located near downtown. JSU offers more than 90 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs through traditional and online course offerings. The university is accredited by the Commission of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is designated as a "Higher Research Activity" by The Carnegie Classification.
